CROS and BICROS Hearing Aids

If you have single-sided deafness, CROS and BICROS hearing aids are a high-tech option that may help you better enjoy 360 degree sound.

How do CROS and BICROS hearing aids work?

With a CROS or BICROS hearing aid system, one “hearing aid” is transmitting sound to the other, rather than amplifying sound into the ear it is worn on. This allows you to receive sound from the deaf side of your head, giving you the ability to hear all around you.

Many people with single-sided deafness struggle in situations where conversation is happening alongside other sound, like television. A CROS or BICROS system can alleviate this struggle by allowing you to hear conversation happening on your deaf side.

Oticon’s latest CROS systems allow for streaming of TV or music at the same time as conversation going on, giving you full access to the sounds around you. If you haven’t tried CROS in a few years, we encourage you to book a demo.

What’s the difference between CROS and BICROS?

The difference between CROS and BICROS is that CROS devices are for people who do not need a hearing aid in their good ear. BICROS devices provide amplification for the good ear, in addition to transmitting sound from the deaf side.

HearingLife can help set you up with either option, depending on the results of your hearing test.

Who is a good candidate for CROS or BICROS hearing aids?

CROS hearing systems can be difficult to adjust to, especially after a lifetime of single-sided deafness. Some users enjoy better communication and find the ability to hear from their bad side life-changing and fulfilling. Others opt to leave their deaf side alone.

We are happy to demo a CROS system for you, free of charge, in our offices! If you decide to try it out in your day-to-day life, you can purchase the hearing aids and have 30 days to return them for a full refund.**

What features do CROS/BICROS hearing aids have?

CROS and BICROS systems are available at all the price points and technology levels of our other hearing aids. When you come for your free hearing test*, our licensed hearing professionals will get to know you and your lifestyle and suggest the correct technology level for you and your budget.
