HearingLife’s People Who Care series is meant to introduce you to just a few of our many hearing healthcare providers who serve you with professional, personalized care at our nationwide locations.
Dr. Daniel Agrusa, Au.D., CCC-A, Lic. #1601000585, is an audiologist at our Royal Oak, Michigan HearingLife location. He has been an audiologist for 12 years, and with HearingLife since 2019. Dr. Agrusa’s interest in hearing comes from his own family’s journey with hearing loss.
“Growing up, my friends always thought my family was always mad because we were yelling at each other,” says Dr. Agrusa. “When we addressed the hearing loss that ran in the family, conversations became more peaceful and calmer. My family members started to actually communicate instead of just shouting over one another – and that was powerful to witness.”
Dr. Agrusa says his favorite part of being an audiologist is witnessing the transformation people go through when they can hear again.
“Hearing allows people to have deeper and more meaningful connections, pursue their passions and, overall, lead happier lives,” he says, adding that many people don’t realize that hearing loss can contribute to depression, cognitive decline and a negative outlook on life. “We help people hear life and live better!”
Dr. Agrusa often says to people who come to see him: “We can help a person to hear but we cannot make them listen. Hearing is a sense, but listening is a skill and a choice. If we want to be present and enjoy better relationships, we have to make better choices."
