HearingLife’s People Who Care series is meant to introduce you to just a few of our many hearing healthcare providers who serve you with professional, personalized care at our nationwide locations.
Today, meet Dr. Jacey R. Courser, Au.D., CCC-A, who works at our Cambridge, Ohio location since 2020. Dr. Courser has been an audiologist for 12 years.
Dr. Courser always wanted to work in the medical field but originally planned to study speech pathology. She says that audiology found her because when she needed a few hours of clinical observation during undergrad, the speech pathologist didn’t have room on the schedule, but the audiologist did.
“I observed an auditory brainstem response (ABR) assessment on a newborn and a hearing aid fitting that afternoon and was hooked. I called the two universities I had applied to for speech pathology, switched my application to audiology, and never looked back,” she says.
Dr. Courser’s favorite part of being an audiologist is the joy of changing people’s lives for the better.
“I love that hearing healthcare is a journey, and you get to be part of your patient’s life for the long haul. It is such a privilege that they choose you to go on the journey with,” she explains.
Dr. Courser goes on to say that she wishes more people knew how important hearing is to their health and well-being.
“There is so much research showing evidence of the negative effects of untreated hearing loss – but the diagnosis of hearing loss doesn’t have to be scary or intimidating,” she says. “We get to see on a daily basis, but I wish more people knew that hearing aids are life-changing!”
While being an audiologist is an important part of who Dr. Courser is, she is also an adjunct professor for her alma mater, the University of Cincinnati, and she enjoys being involved in my church and community. She is also a homesteader with bees and chickens and is a busy mother of four amazing kiddos.
