Today, meet Mario Mendez, a Hearing Instrument Specialist who works at our Highland, Indiana HearingLife location. Mario has been a hearing care provider since 2017.
After a long career in sales, Mario knew he could have a bigger impact on people’s lives and entered his second career in hearing care.
“My grandmother had undiagnosed hearing loss for many years and I saw the effects it had on her and the entire family,” Mario says. “I figured, what if I could use my skills to help people get the things they really need.”
Mario likes to joke with customers that he has helped more couples than the local therapist. “It helps break the tension and lets everyone feel heard and understood.”
The stress that hearing loss puts on families and relationships though, is no joking matter. “I wish more people knew about the great advancements in hearing technology and how it can change the way we live our lives. It may improve relationships with family, co-workers, and social freedom,” Mario explains.
Mario loves helping people reclaim the things about life that they love the most – like the 103-year-old client who could no longer sing in her church choir or watch her favorite TV shows.
“She came in with her three daughters and when I fit her with her new hearing aids, her face lit up! She started singing her church hymns in my office. They were all crying, and to be completely honest, so was I.”
Mario loves his job, but he also loves his evenings and weekends and enjoys dinners with his family every night and never missing a swim meet.
