HearingLife’s People Who Care series is meant to introduce you to just a few of our many Team Members who serve you with professional, personalized care at our nationwide locations. Today’s feature is about one of our Patient Care Coordinators, who are the friendly faces that greet you when you visit our offices!
Today, meet Peggie Smith, who is a Patient Care Coordinator at our South Boston, Virginia location. Peggie started at HearingLife in 2020 and says joining the Team at HearingLife was the best decision she ever made.
Peggie joined HearingLife after caring for one of her elderly parents with dementia for several years. She also has experience working at a senior living community.
“I am privileged to work and assist people in helping them hear better,” says Peggie. “I absolutely love it.”
“My overall enjoyment with my job is helping others,” says Peggie. “To be an influence on others around me and make their day brighter.”
Peggie’s commitment to helping others is obvious as she shares a favorite memory from her job at an assisted living community:
“The community would put on special events for our seniors, and there was once a dance with music from their era (1940's, 50's and 60's). We had one gentleman that was in our memory care unit and he did not have any family there, but when a certain song came on, I noticed he looked toward the door as though he was looking for someone. When he caught my eye, he called me by a name, which was not mine, but his late wife’s. The song that was playing was their special song. So, we had a dance and as I looked up, I saw him smile. It gave me so much joy that I was there in the right place to help him to relive his special memory. That's what it's all about.”
When she’s not at work, Peggie enjoys being “Mimi” – playing with her granddaughter and grandson and staying active with her two dogs.
