The Hearing Aid Project, a program of Sertoma, is a charitable organization that has been collecting used hearing aids and repurposing them since 2016. They work with a network of community groups, state programs and more to collect used hearing aids and get them into the hands of children and adults in need.

The group provides free hearing aids to individuals in need in the U.S. and abroad and recycles over one ton of electronics every year, keeping that waste out of landfills. HearingLife is proud to support the Hearing Aid Project’s work by becoming a drop-off location for communities throughout the country!

Where do the donated hearing aids go?

Donated hearing aids are sent to the Hearing Aid Project for processing, where they are divided into several categories. Hearing aids that are less than three years old and from one of the six major manufacturers are refurbished. The Hearing Aid Project works with a network of audiologists and hearing aid specialists to fit qualified individuals with these newly refurbished hearing aids at no-cost to the recipient. Older hearing aids that are still useable are provided on medical missions in developing countries around the world. Hearing aids that cannot be utilized in the program are recycled for financial credit and the funds are used to support the program through custom ear molds, receivers and associated services.

Who does the Hearing Aid Project Help?

The Hearing Aid Project helps people who need hearing aids that make 200% or less of the federal poverty level. Their website outlines numerous additional programs that may help with affording hearing aids. You can explore those programs and learn more about applying here.
